Description
Galilee is a large region in the northeast portion of Holy Land with beautiful mountains, a temperate climate, and lush fields of wildflowers. Several biblical cities are in Galilee, such as Capernaum, Cana, Magdala, and NazarethJesus' hometown.
As Scripture reveals, Jesus spent much of His time focusing on ministry in Galileeteaching, performing miracles, and casting out demons (Luke 4:31-37). In fact, Jesu' first miracleturning water into winehappened in the area (John 2:1-11) at Cana.
Along the sandy shores of the Sea of Galilee, Jesus called several of His disciples to follow Him including, Simon Peter, Andrew, James, and John. Leaving their livelihoods behind as simple fishermen, they became "fishers of men" (Mark 1:16).
Galilee is also the place where Jesus reunited with His disciples for the first time after His resurrection from the dead (Mark 16:47). And where His ascension back to the Father into heaven took place (Acts 1:611).
