Shechem was a small town in Samaria where Jesus encountered the Samaritan woman at the well.
"Come to me all you who are thirsty," is the clear message of Jesus in the small Samaritan town of Shechem . While travelling back to Galilee from preaching the Good News of the Kingdom in Judea, Jesus took the most direct route, which meant passing through Samaria the home of the Samaritans.
It was in this region, in the town of Shechem that we have one of the most interesting encounters recorded in Scripture (John 4:1-26).
Jesus is waiting by the town well when a Samaritan woman comes to draw water. Cutting through the social divides of the day, Jesus asks the woman, "Will you give me a drink?"
