The Jordan River is the place where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist.
At the age of 30 His remarkable destiny begins to unfold and begins by visiting John the Baptizer at the Jordan River. John is a forerunner preparing the people of God with a message of repentance (Mark 1:1-11). It is good for us to remember that to approach God we should begin with sorrow for sins, contrition, and confession. The God of the Bible always exalts those who approach Him in this manner (James 4:7-10).
Jesus, of course, had nothing of which to repent, so why did He seek baptism at the hands of John? (Matthew 3:13-17). The answer lies in His destiny. That is, He was assuming the sinners' place as a substitute and thereby at the very beginning of His ministry embracing the cross. John, to some measure, understood this, and that's why he called out, "Behold the Son of God Who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29).
