Artist's Description
Bethany is a small town on the southeast slopes of the Mount of Olives, not too far from Jerusalem. From the book of John, we know Bethany was the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus and that Jesus was good friends with all of them, often staying in their home.
Bethany was the site of two very important events in the life of Jesus. One was the anointing of expensive perfume on Jesus' head by Mary, while He reclined in the home of Simon the Leper (Mark 14:3-9).
The other important event was the miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead (John 11:38-44).
