Mount Tabor is the site of the Transfiguration, where Moses and Elijah appeared and the appearance of Jesus became glorious.
On His last journey before the fateful events that led to His crucifixion in Jerusalem, He climbed Mt. Tabor with Peter, James, and John and was transfigured before them.
Not only was His appearance glorious, but Moses and Elijah appeared with Him (Matthew 17:1-13). Moses finally made it to the Promised Land to endorse the Messianic calling of Jesus!
This amazing encounter led the disciples to believe that the Kingdom of God of which Zechariah the Prophet had spoken (Zechariah 14:16-19) had now come.
Therefore they asked whether they should build three tabernacles or booths. They were right in one way, but wrong in another. Only Messiah's death could bring in this kingdom and this would happen in Jerusalem.
